AHPA event: First Nations Workshop - Building Knowledge Exchange Skills

The Australian Health Promotion Association (AHPA®) will be hosting a First Nations workshop – Building Knowledge Exchange Skills on Tuesday 20th September 2022 from 11am-2pm (AEST), 10.30am-1.30pm (ACST), 9-12pm (AWST).

This event will be held virtually.

Participants will have the opportunity to hear from experienced speakers and Indigenous/First Nations people working in health promotion, including Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander people, Māori - Indigenous people of Aotearoa (New Zealand), and Indigenous people from Pacific Island Nations.

Guest speakers

Guest speakers include:

  • Dr Kalinda Griffiths – AHPA Thinker in Residence, HPJA Editorial Team
  • Dr Melissa Stewart – Journalist, Editor-in-Chief, Croakey
  • Dr Tess Ryan – Academic, Writer, and Consultant

Sessions

This workshop will include three sessions:

  • Academic publications 
  • Press, PR & Public Interest Journalism
  • Social media

The workshop is specifically for AHPA, AEA, AFPHM & PHAA members, Indigenous/First Nations people working in health promotion as well as people working in Indigenous health and with Indigenous/First Nations communities.

This workshop is designed to:

  • Support and empower Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander people to share their work and stories widely across different platforms.
  • Promote how to engage individuals and organisations in better supporting Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander/Indigenous driven and led health promotion and preventative ill health initiatives.
