When a crisis hits, it can create a reverberating sense of anxiety, disorder, and disconnect throughout affected communities. While disturbing society as a whole, these crises also disproportionately affect marginalised communities. To get through these extremely challenging times we rely on structures that bring us together and provide opportunities for recovery. Previous crises have demonstrated the value of governments working in partnership with communities to successfully tackle a crisis, together. This webinar will explore lessons learnt from previous crises – such as the HIV health crisis, the recent bush fires, and the current Victorian experience of COVID-19 – with a specific lens on how we can adapt and apply these key learnings in our ongoing pandemic.

The WHO Collaborating Centre for Health Impact Assessment at Curtin University, in conjunction with the HIA Network Asia Pacific and the Asia-Pacific Centre for Environment and Health, WHO, WPRO, would like to invite you to a webinar on ‘Charting the course of Health Impact Assessment (HIA) in the Asia Pacific post-COVID-19’. COVID-19 has delivered a dramatic demonstration of the critical links between development and the health of the environment, the people and the economy.  As a consequence of the pandemic, we will see shifts in how public health challenges are viewed and managed for years to come.  Reflecting and responding to these shifts will be critical. This webinar will consider these issues in the context of the future of Health Impact Assessment (HIA) in the region. The webinar will be organised as a series of short presentations and an open forum.

Since the Uluru Statement from the Heart was issued in 2017, Thomas Mayor has travelled around the country to promote its vision of a better future for indigenous Australians. He's visited communities big and small, often with the Uluru Statement rolled up in a tube under his arm. His book about that journey - Finding the Heart of the Nation - weaves in the personal stories of Aboriginal community leaders, artists and many others, making clear what the Uluru Statement is and why it is important. Hear from Thomas at this webinar, and learn how you can join him, along with a growing movement of Australians, in the fight for substantive constitutional change. Register here.
