Mentoring Program - Volunteers Needed - February 2023

AHPA NATIONAL MENTORING PROGRAM

The AHPA® mentoring program is for people interested in or working in the field of health promotion. It is one of the strategies to build the professional capacity of our members.

Our 2023 mentoring program is now open.  Please download the attached flyer for more information.

To register for the 2023 program as a mentor or a mentee, please complete the application form and submit by COB MONDAY 13th March 2023.  Apply here.

The National Mentoring Program is an important means for AHPA to achieve this aim, and we encourage all members to participate as mentees, mentors or both!

Previous participants have described the program as enjoyable, nurturing, positive, mutually beneficial, rewarding and reassuring.

What is mentoring?

  • Mentoring is a one-to-one or group relationship between a more experienced person (mentor) and a less experienced person/s (mentees).
  • Mentoring gives members of the Australian Health Promotion Association the opportunity to build their professional and personal skills, and to grow and develop in the process.
  • Mentoring is based upon encouragement, constructive comments, openness, mutual trust, respect and a willingness to learn and share.

What does the program typically involve?

  • The mentoring partnership is a mutually beneficial partnership.
  • Mentors volunteer their time to contribute towards personal development in health promotion.
  • Mentee’s are expected to be committed, prepared and proactive.
  • For mentors no more than 2 hours per month is expected.
  • Mentor applicants are expected to have 4 or more years experience in health promotion.

Participation in mentoring can assist those who have achieved registration as a Health Promotion Practitioner under our important Health Promotion Practitioner Registration initiative. Mentoring is approved as a Continuing Professional Development (CPD) activity for maintaining your registration through AHPA®, involving accruing the 75 hours of CPD over three years. It can also assist mentees in working towards the registration competencies.
