Planning, implementing and evaluating health promotion interventions

Curtin University's flexible 12-week online course will provide you with an understanding of the role and importance of health promotion and the broader concept of health within a community and national setting. 

The Navigating Health Globally panel discussion: Pathways to support - Patients, Professionals, Peers, Practicalities will be held online on Monday 14 August 2023, 12 - 1pm AEST.

Navigating health and related systems such as disability and aged care, can be difficult. Many Australians are not aware of the complexities until they experience a health challenge and find themselves at their most vulnerable, within a system they neither understand nor feel empowered by.

The Student and Early Career Practitioner Practice Group invite you to the first of a three-part series exploring skills development through the core competencies in health promotion. This event will be held online on 16 August 2023.

The core competencies are the minimum set of competencies for health promotion practitioners to work efficiently, effectively and appropriately. They also form criteria for the registration of practitioners and accreditation of courses through the International Union of Health Promotion Education (IUHPE).

Delivered by the University of Canberra in collaboration with the Public Health Advocacy Institute of Australia at Curtin University, the aim of this short course is to share ideas on public health advocacy. 

The Australian Alcohol & Other Drugs Council are hosting an online event, Applying the new Disability Support Pension Impairment Tables & Navigating Income Support Mutual Obligations for AOD clients: Information for the AOD Sector, on Tuesday 22 August. 

This event is about ensuring that clinicians working in the alcohol and other drugs (AOD) sector have a good understanding of how to use the new AOD specific table - and the related guidelines - to provide appropriate supporting documentation for clients applying for the Disability Support Pension (DSP). 

The Migration Conference (TMC) 2023 is hosted by the Faculty of Law at Universität Hamburg, Germany.  The TMC is a venue for academics, policymakers, practitioners, students and everybody who is interested in intelligent debate and research informed discussions on human mobility and its impacts around the world.

Hon. A/Prof Leanne Coombe will present on the work that has been underway by the World Health Organization to professionalise the public health workforce. In particular, she will provide an update on the comprehensive competency framework for public health education that has been developed and what that potentially means for public health educators in the Australian context.

The Planetary Health Equity Hothouse’s inaugural annual Policy Symposium will be held on Wednesday 13 September 2023 at the Research School of Physics Auditorium, Australian National University in Canberra.

The theme of this event is: ‘Extinction thwarted? The nexus between climate change, social equity and health’. The role of different economic models, power in policy systems, and opportunities offered by optimising climate change mitigation policies for social and health goals will be explored and discussed at this event.

The Council of Academic Public Health Institutions Australasia (CAPHIA) and the Allied Health and Human Performance Unit of University of South Australia are hosting the 2023 Teaching and Learning Forum in person and online on the 21-22 September. 

The 2023 Forum will provide important opportunities for learning, networking and collaboration both in person and virtually with the theme “The Future of Public Health Education: Competencies, Advocacy, Workforce.”

The Australian Evaluation Society (AES) is hosting a face-to-face 2023 International Evaluation Conference from Wednesday 27 - Friday 29 of September in Brisbane. 

The Centre for Evidence and Implementation, the National University of Singapore’s Centre for Behavioural and Implementation Science Interventions (BISI) and Monash University is co-hosting the Evidence and Implementation Summit 2023, in Melbourne, Australia, from Monday 9th to Wednesday 11th October 2023.

Deakin Crime and Criminology Group (C2G) Seminar Series

In this seminar we will hear from four speakers on illicit firearms trafficking, the threat posed by new technologies and 3D printed firearms, and the use of illicit firearms by members of organised criminal groups. Each presenter will speak for approximately 15 minutes, followed by Q&A and discussion panel.

The Australasian Epidemiological Association (AEA) are hosting their 2023 Annual Scientific Meeting from Wednesday 18 to Friday 20 October 2023. The theme of the meeting is 'How epidemiology can ensure healthy lives for all.'

The meeting will provide a platform for sharing evidence and findings in epidemiology, as well as sharing ideas and making recommendations for the way forward. The meeting will have high quality national and international experts presenting various aspects of epidemiology.

GAPC is the leading forum for the world’s alcohol policy makers, advocates, researchers, civil society activists and practitioners.
