As part of the Association's efforts to build advocacy capacity nationally, AHPA Executive Officer Rebecca Zosel ran a workshop for AHPA's leadership team on 17 August 2023 titled Undertaking Advocacy on behalf of the Association.
The workshop, attended by over 30 Board Directors, Branch Presidents and Committee members, provided a forum to share AHPA's internal processes, requirements, expectations and resources available to support members' advocacy efforts.
AHPA is the peak body for health promotion in Australia and actively contributes to discussion, debate and decision-making on health promotion policy, practice and research. We seek to influence a broad range of policies as they impact on population health, and in recent times have stepped our advocacy efforts up a notch.
During the 2022-2023 financial year, AHPA influenced a range of public policies and programs through its extensive advocacy activity, which included 18 submissions to government consultations and inquiries at the Federal, State and Territory level.
AHPA is committed to supporting members to provide evidence-based advice relevant to the Association's role in promoting good health, preventing illness and redressing inequities, and is currently developing a number of resources and position statements to support and underpin this work.
We encourage members to stay tuned for more opportunities to get involved, and thank them sincerely for their voluntary contributions, expertise and passion.
