Preventing obesity in early life - what can Victorian local governments do?

14 Oct 2021, 9:30am-11:30am

Implementing successful strategies for early life obesity prevention

Preventing childhood obesity from the beginning of life is critically important and complex - yet we know more about how to achieve prevention than ever before. Picking up on prevention must happen across Government and to this end we invite you to be part of a strategic discussion on ‘Preventing obesity in early childhood - what can Victorian local governments do?’

This event is hosted by leading VIC-based academics from the Centre of Research Excellence in the Early Prevention of Obesity in Childhood (CRE-EPOCH) funded by the National Health and Medical Research Council. This will be a 2-hour online event on Thursday 14 October 9:30 – 11:30 am AEDT.

CRE EPOCH (2016-2021) has brought together researchers, practitioners and policymakers from Australia, New Zealand and England to work together on approaches to the prevention of obesity in children aged 0 to 5 years. This unique collaboration has enabled world-leading policy- and practice-relevant research to be undertaken.

We are excited to share our learnings, but more importantly we value your expertise and partnership in making a real impact to improve the health of young children in local communities. This event aims to discuss the evidence for prevention and practical strategies for implementation at the local government level.

We will ask you to contribute to sharing your experiences and ideas on how we can work together to support parents to promote healthy lifestyle behaviours in their young children.

We encourage you to extend this invitation to other key decision makers in your local government who would be interested.
