Dr Freya MacMillan - Director
PhD; BSc (Hons). IUHPE RHPP (Aust).
Dr Freya MacMillan is a Senior Lecturer in Interprofessional Health Sciences at Western Sydney University where she coordinates and teaches Health Promotion units. Her research focuses on the development, evaluation and translation of health promotion and diabetes prevention interventions. She uses a mix of qualitative and quantitative techniques to do this and follows community engaged processes to ensure the interventions she develops are appropriate, more likely adopted and incorporate sustainable approaches.
Freya has extensive expertise in lifestyle and health outcome measurement, including physical activity monitoring (such as use of accelerometers) and questionnaire administration to capture physiological, psychological and social outcomes. She also has skills in using theory to guide interventions (such as Social Cognitive Theory, the Transtheoretical model and the Health Action Process Approach) and has applied qualitative techniques to guide intervention development and evaluation from the perspectives of community and partners involved.
