Cancer Prevention in WA: Opportunities for policy-relevant research

8 Mar 2019, 9:30am-12:00pm

An invitation is extended to all researchers to attend this free seminar.

About this Event

Cancer Council Western Australia (CCWA) and other non-Government organisations have a role in advocating for stronger public health policies that aim to prevent cancer incidence. Researchers are critical and valuable partners in achieving success in this area, as policy relevant research helps ensure we’re not only recommending evidence based policies, but we have the research to convince decision makers of their importance.

This seminar will stimulate policy relevant research ideas and opportunities for further collaboration between researchers and CCWA. It will include:

- Emeritus Professor Mike Daube AO providing an overview and context for the importance of policy relevant research.

- An overview of CCWA’s current cancer prevention policy priorities across its key risk factors, including skin cancer prevention, tobacco control and obesity prevention.

- Presentations from CCWA, Healthway and the WA Health Translation Network to provide an overview of research funding opportunities, and expectations for collaboration between researchers and partners.

- Case studies of policy relevant research projects that have directly impacted on CCWA advocacy in regard to tobacco and alcohol.

A videoconferencing option will be available to select when registering for those unable to attend in person.
