After growing up in the Wheatbelt, Melissa moved to Perth to complete her undergraduate and Honours degrees in Psychology. In 2017, she completed her Graduate Diploma in Health Promotion and in 2018 was awarded the AHPA WA Branch Health Promotion Scholarship (Graduate).
Her scholarship project, based at the Collaboration for Evidence, Research and Impact in Public Health (CERIPH) at Curtin University, researched alcohol and connectedness amongst young people who play community sport. Melissa now works at the Alcohol and Drug Foundation as Senior Community Development Officer to prevent alcohol and other drug harm in the community. Melissa joined the AHPA WA Branch committee in 2019. She was the Capacity Building and Excellence lead before taking on the role of Secretary in 2021.
