On December 4, 2024, health promotion practitioners gathered for an online workshop, Submitting to the Health Promotion Journal of Australia – Tips and Tricks.
This engaging session was led by Dr Louise Baldwin, Chair of the AHPA Research Education Evidence and Translation Committee, along with Dr Belinda Lunnay (Board Director) and Gabrielle Fisher (SA Branch Co-President).
It was a practical and engaging session, where participants learnt about the journal’s focus on research-practice-policy nexus and encouraged confidence to engage in the submission and peer-review process. There was diverse participation from across the country. We had 15 participants from SA, Qld, Vic, WA, and Taiwan, which allowed for productive, small break-out discussions.
Feedback from participants included:
- 'I welcome these opportunities to be involved with AHPA and learn from other members.'
- 'Just so good to engage with a group so committed to demystifying the process and making themselves accessible.'
- 'Friendly no nonsense advice and discussion'
- 'Having a chat in the breakout room, was good insight to get in the 2 person chat'
This event served as a powerful motivator for those considering writing over the summer and offered practical encouragement to practitioners eager to publish their work but unsure where to begin.

We look forward to seeing more practitioners empowered to share their knowledge and contribute to the growing body of health promotion research!
