AHPA short course: Health Promotion Advocacy: Strategies for Change

2 Jun 2025 - 27 Jun 2025, 12:00am-12:00am

This course has now reached capacity. Please keep a lookout for future opportunities.

This four-week online course will run from 2nd to 27th June 2025 and includes self-paced online modules with video tutorials, case studies, podcasts, reading materials, and discussion forums, allowing you to engage at your own pace within a community of health promotion professionals.

Participants should expect to spend 3-4 hours each week reviewing course materials and engaging in practical and interactive tasks across the four weeks.

This is the second of two courses delivered by Curtin University on behalf of AHPA to support the Australian health promotion workforce. The first course, Politics and Power for Promoting Health, was delivered in 2024. Successful completion of both courses will be recognised as the equivalent of a unit in Curtin’s postgraduate public health degrees.

Overview

Health promotion advocacy is essential for achieving health equity and tackling the broader determinants of health. Advocacy helps ensure that the voices of communities and health promotion practitioners are heard in policy, funding, and decision-making spaces.

This course explores practical frameworks and strategies to influence policy and structural change for better health outcomes. It draws on real-world examples from across Australia and internationally, equipping participants with tools to design, implement, and evaluate advocacy initiatives that make a difference.

Through this course, you will develop your understanding of how to frame messages, build coalitions, engage stakeholders, and navigate policy processes to advance health promotion goals.

Join us as we build the skills and confidence to advocate for health equity and social justice.
