The workshop will use a series of workshop-style seminars and exercises to provide theory and practical examples to cover:

• An Introduction to Health-Related Quality of Life (HRQoL) and other patient-reported outcomes (PRO) and their application in research
• Choosing the right PRO instrument to address your research aims (with a special focus on cancer)
• Tips for study design (including timing of PRO assessments and study conduct issues)
• Brief introduction to and considerations for data analysis and interpretation

Cancer Council Western Australia (CCWA) and other non-Government organisations have a role in advocating for stronger public health policies that aim to prevent cancer incidence. We hope this seminar will stimulate policy relevant research ideas and opportunities for further collaboration between researchers and CCWA.

The 2019 Aboriginal Health Conference Kids on Country, will emphasise the importance of children and youth in Aboriginal communities and provide a forum to exchange ideas on the key issues relating to the health of Aboriginal children.

To continue to aim for health equity for Aboriginal children and communities, health professionals need an enhanced understanding of culturally competent care and the links between the environment and the health of Aboriginal children. 

The presentations and workshops at this conference will cover aspects of clinical care, research, community programs, emerging health issues and social determinants of health. The conference will also identify strategies to support the role of traditional interactions in Aboriginal communities.

The WA Government is currently considering legislation to privatise the TAB, the state-owned betting agency. As part of the sale, the legislation will permit simulated racing machines to be placed in TABs in WA.

As the Federal election outcome has now sunk in, we all must recalibrate and look to the key public health issues and how they can be advanced. Where are the greatest gains available, what levers can we pull and what might be the best investment of our limited resources?

Terry Slevin, CEO Public Health Association Austrlaia, will offer a view from his role while scoping the opportunities and offering some longer term thinking and wrestling with the simple question “What’s next for public health”. But he notes, simple question rarely have simple answers.

Description: This workshop will be facilitated by psychologist Chris Harris, and aims to to reduce the stigma of mental health by starting the conversation, and educating the community on how to help friends, family and colleagues with mental health problems.

R U OK? Day is a national day of action focusing on mental health and suicide prevention. The day aims to inspire people to build meaningful connections with others around them, and to support others by simply asking: Are you okay?. A number of free community events are happening around Perth throughout RUOK Day week, including morning teas, sporting events and fundraisers.

The biennial conference will run for 4 days, and is driven by 3 key areas: increase the understanding and awareness of environmental health issues in Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander communities; provide a forum to showcase achievements and discuss emerging issues in Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander Environmental Health; provide a national voice for Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander Environmental Health. Industry speakers will present on topics regarding indigenous and environmental health, communities, and past, current and future project areas.
