STEPS Project Workshop

The STrengthening Evaluation Practices and Strategies in Indigenous settings in Australia and New Zealand (STEPS) project aims to strengthen the cultural safety of evaluations carried out in Indigenous settings in Australia and New Zealand.

The first step of the project identified strategies and practices to strengthen the cultural safety of evaluation.

The second step aims to organise and prioritise these strategies and practices to provide organisations such as the Australian Health Promotion Association (AHPA) and Australasian Evaluation Society (AES) with a road map for action. This is where we need your help.

The NT Branches of AHPA and AES are co-sponsoring a meeting on Wednesday 28th June from 4pm to 5.30pm to facilitate interested participants to contribute to this step of the project. This will be held at the Fred Hollows Foundation at 13 Scaturchio St, Casuarina. We are particularly keen to have Indigenous evaluation input into this project.

This research project is led by A/Prof Margaret Cargo and Dr Amohia Boulton and is a collaboration between Indigenous and non-Indigenous evaluators associated with the Whakauae Research for Māori Health and Development (New Zealand), James Cook University & the University of South Australia (Australia).

The project is supported by an advisory committee with representation from: the Australasian Evaluation Society, Australian Health Promotion Association, Aboriginal Health Council of South Australia, Aotearoa New Zealand Evaluation Association (ANZEA), Mā te Rae (the Māori Evaluation Association of New Zealand), Kinnect Group, Oxfam Australia, and The Fred Hollows Foundation.

The session will include group analysis of strategies and practices relevant to Indigenous evaluation for use in the STEPS research project. Participants will be part of an informed consent process before participation in the activities. Later on in the year we will feed back the results of the project back to AHPA and the AES.
