"Walking the Talk Together:  Partnerships for Health Promotion"
Australian Health Promotion Association 19th National Conference

The theme for the Conference is 'Walking the Talk Together:  Partnerships for Health Promotion'.

"Health promotion's commitment is derived from a vision of how the world could be if it was based on an understanding of the determinants of health."  Whatever the program or the outcome, what is clear, is when we partner with others our actions will be more measured, more appropriate and more effective.

The streams for the conference are:

Partnering for the Future

Significant pressures face health promotion practitioners into the future such as widening inequity, increasing rates of chronic disease and the factors that contribute to them. Appropriate and effective interventions in health promotion require partnership.

Partnerships with the Non-Health Sector

Health promotion works within and beyond the boundaries of the health sector. While program initiatives often originate in the health sector, to change unhealthy living conditions and improve lifestyles, the involvement of other stakeholder organisations and policy sectors is required.

Professional Development for Health Promotion Partnerships

In addition to catalyzing change, leadership, assessment, planning, implementation, evaluation and advocacy, developing and sustaining partnerships requires new knowledge and skills.

International Partnerships

Rapid and often adverse social, economic, environmental and demographic changes impact on the social fabric of communities. All these changes have been accelerated by globalization. Globalization has also opened up opportunities to improve health and reduce transnational health risks.

All of the above streams are well suited to abstracts based on health promotion planned in partnership with Indigenous Australians.
