2009/10 Australian Health Promotion Association (Vic) and Public Health Association (Vic) Mentoring Program

The program is closed for the 2009/10 period.  The program will not be running in 2010/2011.  Stay tuned for a new and reinvigorated program in 2011/2012.

The Victorian Branch of the Australian Health Promotion Association (AHPA) and the Public Health Association of Australia (Victorian Branch) (PHAA) conducts a Mentoring Program for members of the Associations each year.

The aim of the Mentoring Program is to establish planned mentoring relationships that will assist in the personal and professional development of people interested in improving their practice and/or expanding their interest in health promotion and public health.

Eligibility

The Mentoring Program is open to Victorian members, both individual and organisational, of the Australian Health Promotion Association and Public Health Association of Australia who either wish to be a mentee or a mentor.

The program is best suited to members who are currently employed as a public health professional and are looking to further develop their skills and experience within their current role.  Students are advised to contact their educational institute for support with sourcing volunteer work opportunities and employment opportunities.

The objectives of the AHPA/PHAA Mentoring Program are to:

  • Develop and implement a mentoring model that will enhance the health promotion and public health knowledge skills and expertise of participants;
  • Provide a training program for up to 40 participants wishing to be mentors or mentees;
  • Provide up to 20 members of AHPA and PHAA wishing to develop or improve their practice in health promotion pr public health access to appropriate mentors; and
  • Provide a framework for negotiated agreements between mentors and mentees.
