2009/10 Australian Health Promotion Association (Vic) and Public Health Association (Vic) Mentoring Program
The program is closed for the 2009/10 period. The program will not be running in 2010/2011. Stay tuned for a new and reinvigorated program in 2011/2012.
The Victorian Branch of the Australian Health Promotion Association (AHPA) and the Public Health Association of Australia (Victorian Branch) (PHAA) conducts a Mentoring Program for members of the Associations each year.
The aim of the Mentoring Program is to establish planned mentoring relationships that will assist in the personal and professional development of people interested in improving their practice and/or expanding their interest in health promotion and public health.
Eligibility
The Mentoring Program is open to Victorian members, both individual and organisational, of the Australian Health Promotion Association and Public Health Association of Australia who either wish to be a mentee or a mentor.
The program is best suited to members who are currently employed as a public health professional and are looking to further develop their skills and experience within their current role. Students are advised to contact their educational institute for support with sourcing volunteer work opportunities and employment opportunities.
The objectives of the AHPA/PHAA Mentoring Program are to:
- Develop and implement a mentoring model that will enhance the health promotion and public health knowledge skills and expertise of participants;
- Provide a training program for up to 40 participants wishing to be mentors or mentees;
- Provide up to 20 members of AHPA and PHAA wishing to develop or improve their practice in health promotion pr public health access to appropriate mentors; and
- Provide a framework for negotiated agreements between mentors and mentees.
Student Initiatives Working Group
The Student Initiatives Working Group aims to increase the profile of health promotion as a professional whilst also providing networking, career development and employment opportunities for students; and to recognise and encourage student excellence and achievements in the health promotion field.
Communications Working Group
The main aim of the Communications Working Group is to facilitate communication with the AHPA National Office and Vic Branch members. The Communications Working Group produces a regular newsletter that is available here.
Professional Development Working Group
The aim of the Professional Development Working Group is to facilitate professional excellence. This aim is supported by the provision of opportunities for training and professional development.
Advocacy Working Group
The overall aim of the Advocacy Working Group is to facilitate advocacy on health promotion issues.
