Australian Health Promotion Association (QLD Branch)

The Queensland Branch State Executive remains to be the leading dedicated health promotion body in Queensland, dedicated to improving the professional development, networking and communication between health promoters.

Professional Development committee
The Australian Health Promotion Association (Queensland Branch) hosts several professional development events each year. These events give members an opportunity to educate themselves about activities in the field of health promotion, as well as to network with others working in the field.

Queensland Newsletter 'Queensland Health Promotion Quarterly'
The Queensland Branch produces a quarterly newsletter which is distributed free of charge to all members. Health Promotion Quarterly features information on local, national and international health promotion initiatives and provides a useful tool for exchange of communication for health promoters in Queensland.

Queensland Public Health Forum representation
The Queensland Public Health Forum is a collaborative group representing all areas of health in Queensland. The Australian Health Promotion Association (Queensland Branch) is represented on the Forum by a member of the Executive and on the Workforce Development Group by the President.
 

Strategic Plan 2006 - 2008

Introduction
The Australian Health Promotion Association is a professional association for individuals and organisations involved in the practice of health promotion. Our members come from a diverse range of fields including allied health, welfare, education, academia, State and Local Governments, nursing and many others. The main criteria for membership are a significant involvement in health promotion practice, research or study.

Mission
To provide knowledge, resources and perspectives to improve health promotion and practices in Queensland.

Objectives of the Australian Health Promotion Association
The objectives that the Australian Health Promotion Association strives to achieve include:

  1. To make recommendations with respect to the standards for practice of health promotion as well as the training of health promotion professionals;
  2. To enhance health promotion as a distinct profession by establishing criteria for professional standing, salary scales and employment;
  3. To provide opportunities for the professional development of members including the opportunity to meet and exchange information;
  4. To increase public awareness of the roles and functions of health promotion professionals;
  5. To support members in their endeavours to increase public awareness of the concept of health and stimulate interest in health promotion;
  6. To comment upon existing and proposed health promotion policy and programs in the wider community and advocate new directions and
  7. To represent the interests of Health Promotion Professionals in Australia when liaising with other health-related professional bodies nationally and internationally.
2006 - 2008 Strategic Plan
This Strategic Plan highlights the priority areas that the Queensland State Executive of the Australian Health Promotion Association will endeavour to meet in 2006-2008. The four primary action areas include:
  1. Communication and Advocacy
  2. Professional development and membership
  3. Newsletters and
  4. State conference.
